An extra on the set of The Boys Season 5 has opened up about the awkward moment a crowd member’s phone went off while filming. Rather than break character, Antony Starr went full Homelander with his response.
As we said in our Season 5 review, Homelander is the best villain on TV. Over the course of nearly seven years, the character has grown increasingly unhinged, and Starr’s performance has never wavered.
This was experienced firsthand by Joe – who goes by @hackermanjoe online – when he appeared in Season 5 Episode 2 of the superhero series, which required a crowd to sit behind Homelander, Sister Sage, and Firecracker at A-Train’s funeral.
When the fifth and final season premiered this week, Joe shared an image on X pointing to where he was sitting, and wrote, “Here’s my very pivotal cameo during [redacted] in The Boys Season 5.”

Now he’s shared an update, saying Starr stayed in character when someone’s phone went off. “Can finally share this story, but someone’s phone went off during a take,” Joe wrote.

He then added in the comments, “Very baller move. Everyone in the room was applauding afterwards.”
The post has received nearly 70,000 likes at the time of writing, as well as dozens of responses, with many fans jealous that Joe got to experience Starr in action. “You out there living my dream,” wrote one.
“You got to experience a life changing moment. I wish I was you,” said another, while a third added, “This is why he’s the goat.”

Others are just hoping to see it in the blooper reel, or they think the editing team should’ve left it in. “God please be in the blooper reel,” said one, with another writing, “They should have kept that in the episode. I mean it.”
A third chimed in, “Honestly should’ve kept it in and added in the laser eyes,” and a fourth commented, “I wonder if the writer’s room had a go at incorporating that take into the episode.”
And then there are plenty of fans who referenced Season 5 moments to reflect how scared they would’ve been had they experienced Starr’s method acting.
“Would have pissed myself just like Deep,” said one, while another quipped, “Straight to the Freedom Camps with them.” A third wrote, “I would’ve just pissed myself.”
