Euphoria star Angus Cloud died in 2023, but the HBO series keeps his character Fez alive in Season 3, and stuck in prison.
Euphoria returned to HBO last night via a 5 year time-jump, meaning Rue, Nate, Cassie, Maddy, Lexi, and Jules are all out of school, and trying to survive in the real world.
One character doesn’t appear onscreen however, as Fez actor Angus Cloud died of an accidental drug overdose in 2023.

Fez is in prison during Season 3
HBOLexi (Maude Apatow) and Fez (Angus Cloud) in Season 2 of Euphoria.
At the end of Euphoria Season 2, Fezco O’Neill got caught in a gun-fight with police at his apartment that ended with Ashtray dead, and Fez arrested.
In Episode 1 of Season 3, when Rue visits Lexi, we learn that he was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and is currently serving that time.
Rue berates Lexi for not calling him, while in Episode 3, Rue calls him herself, though we only see the conversation from her point-of-view.
How Euphoria honors Angus Cloud

In a statement sent to press, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson wrote about keeping Cloud/Fez alive in the series, stating: “Angus Cloud’s passing deeply affected me in an unexpected way. With addiction, you’re supposed to be prepared for the loss of someone struggling, but his death stirred an anger – not only for him, but for the many young lives in America cut short by fentanyl.
“In the year he died, over 70,000 Americans were lost to it, the leading cause of death for those under 45. This season became my way to honor Angus and all the kids who weren’t offered a second chance. I wanted to tell a story where hope and light could still be felt in the darkness.”
While on the Season 3 red carpet, Levinson told EW: “I fought very hard to keep him clean when he was alive, and losing him was really tough… if I couldn’t keep him alive in life, then, I could in the show.”
